Cliff face sheep rescue success in North Wales
RSPCA’s rope rescue team mobilised to rescue sheep at Llanberis, Caernarfon

A SHEEP trapped on a mountain ledge has been rescued by the RSPCA.
The RSPCA was contacted by a member of the public after the sheep was spotted stranded on a very small ledge at Nant Peris, Llanberis, Caernarfon. The ledge was 50 feet from the top of a 150 foot cliff.
The RSPCA’s rope rescue team were called to action and attended the location yesterday [26 March].
The dramatic rescue on the cliff face included RSPCA inspectors Chris Dunbar, Mark Roberts, Mike Pugh, Andrew Broadbent and animal collection officer (ACO) Ann Lloyd Williams.
RSPCA inspector Mark Roberts said: “The rescue went really well. Inspector Pugh and ACO Lloyd Williams descended down a sheer drop towards the sheep and managed to grab the animal.”
RSPCA inspector Chris Dunbar, who is the rope team leader, said it was a successful rescue.
“The top of the area where we set up was quite steep so extra precautions had to be taken,” he said.
“The sheep was very thirsty and started to eat and drink straight away when we released it, but was fine.
“It was a very successful outcome.”
RSPCA Cymru is well practiced in rope rescues, and is able to deal with small livestock rescues.
